Established at the beginning of 2018, the Carbon Fri Foundation aims to promote the reduction of CO₂ emissions among organizations in Fribourg. To achieve this, the foundation awards the "Carbon Fri" label to Fribourg-based companies or events that demonstrate a commitment to reducing their ecological impact. Recipients of the label pledge to lower their CO₂ emissions and contribute financially to the foundation, with one contribution per tonne of CO₂ emitted. This label also provides 4 points in the evaluation of tenders for public contracts.

The Carbon Fri label can be awarded to companies, events, products, services, and processes. All funds collected are reinvested in the economic fabric of the canton of Fribourg by supporting local projects that cannot benefit from existing aid and meet the foundation’s granting conditions.

Since its inception, Carbon Fri has fostered a dynamic and active community around sustainable development, bringing together labeled companies, project stakeholders, and other key actors.
